ION RESTAURANT // Middletown, CT
When looking for a restaurant a few weeks ago, my friend suggested we try a local vegan restaurant. Coming from an omnivore, I was extra excited! So my mom, best friend, and I headed to It’s Only Natural in Middletown (adorably nicknamed ION) and had one of the most fabulous meals I’ve had in a while.
Elegantly decorated with plush booths and badass tables made of locally chopped wood, this place is a not-so-hidden gem on Main Street. And that’s just the decor! The service was fantastic and the owner’s cute little dachshund came waddling by to say hello as they were closing (anytime there is a dog involved, that’s added points in my book).
Most importantly, THE FOOD. Naturally, we decided to get everything on the menu. Only kidding- but close! The three of us split the nachos and spring rolls as appetizers. My mom also got the corn chowder from the specials menu and I could’ve stolen the entire bowl from her, it was so good! For the main event my mom ordered the winter vegetable pot pie, my friend got the kale salad, and I opted for the seitan picatta since I hardly ever find seitan on any menus!
I was incredibly excited to be able to pick off other people’s plates for once because everything was free of animal products as well as amazingly delicious. Everything tasted like “the real thing,” as many omnivores say (only BETTER). Unfortunately I didn’t get any more photos before we scarfed down our many plates of delectable vegan grub but here’s one of my drool-worthy picatta:
I can’t believe I hadn’t been there before. Needless to say, I will definitely be back! And next stop: trying out the ION Market across the street….
